Announced in June alongside a range of Apple Intelligence and AI features, 'Genmoji' will be available starting December 11.
Unlike other apps that allow for custom emojis, Apple’s 'Genmoji' uses generative AI to craft unique emojis. The feature will be accessible on iOS 18.2 for iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and newer models, as well as iPadOS 18.2 on iPad models with an A17 or M1 chip or later.
To use 'Genmoji,' iPhone users simply need to open their emoji keyboard and select the 'Create new emoji' option.
Next, users can type a description of the emoji they want, and the custom emoji will be generated. For example, typing 'a cat that's an astronaut' will instantly create a 'Genmoji' of an astronaut cat.
Are there any restrictions on 'Genmoji'?
Apple has implemented safety measures for the 'Genmoji' feature to prevent the creation of inappropriate content, such as nudity, gore, or violence. If a user attempts to generate a 'Genmoji' with a prohibited description, they will receive a message indicating that the emoji cannot be created.
Additionally, all 'Genmojis' are created and stored locally on the iPhone, with no need to send data to the cloud for generation, according to Apple.
