This innovative refrigerator transforms cooling with its Peltier module, leveraging an AI algorithm for energy efficiency, extended food preservation, and increased internal storage space.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced today that it will unveil its new refrigerators featuring AI Hybrid Cooling technology at CES® 2025, with plans to expand into global markets later this year. These refrigerators combine artificial intelligence with cutting-edge cooling methods to cater to the diverse needs of modern households.

“Refrigerators operate 24/7, so we focused on developing a cooling system that significantly enhances energy efficiency for users,” said Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and Head of the R&D Team for Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “The global debut of our AI Hybrid Cooling technology underscores our dedication to innovation in home appliances. We will continue to introduce products that leverage advanced technologies to make consumers’ daily lives more convenient.”

Optimized Energy Efficiency with Adaptive Hybrid Cooling

The AI Hybrid Cooling technology integrates a high-efficiency compressor with a Peltier module[1], a semiconductor device that cools by utilizing the temperature change caused by electric current flow. Similar to a hybrid car, the refrigerator uses both power sources together only when necessary, ensuring efficient cooling.

For example, during high cooling demands—such as when many groceries are added at once, hot food is stored, or in the heat of summer—the refrigerator activates the Peltier module alongside the compressor. Under normal conditions, it relies solely on the compressor for optimal energy efficiency. An AI algorithm monitors the refrigerator’s status and predicts temperature changes to adjust the cooling mode accordingly.

The high-efficiency AI Inverter Compressor[2] further enhances energy use with an improved design that increases the rotational radius of its components. With 4.1 times greater inertia compared to Samsung’s conventional F3 compressor[3], it runs longer while consuming less energy.[4] Using AI, the compressor dynamically optimizes its speed for maximum efficiency.[5]

Samsung’s ongoing innovations aim to introduce a model in 2025 recognized as the Most Efficient[6] under ENERGY STAR standards.

Prolonged Freshness with Precise Temperature Control

The AI Hybrid Cooling technology ensures longer freshness for perishable foods with Hybrid Precise Cooling. This feature minimizes internal temperature fluctuations, even during automatic defrost cycles. By leveraging residual heat from the Peltier module during defrosting, it reduces the risk of temperature spikes that can compromise food quality.

As a result, food stays fresher for longer. Tests reveal that Hybrid Precise Cooling can extend the freshness of items like pork and salmon by up to 1.4 times and 1.2 times respectively,[8] when activated.[7]

Enhanced Storage and Everyday Convenience

Refrigerators equipped with AI Hybrid Cooling technology redefine space efficiency, offering an impressive 900-litre capacity[9] without altering external dimensions. By replacing traditional heating elements with a Peltier module, internal capacity increases by 25 litres. This creates 60mm deeper shelves[10] and a 13.8%[11] larger loadable area, accommodating up to 240 beverage cans[12]—24 more than conventional models.

Leading the Future of Home Refrigeration

Samsung’s AI Hybrid Cooling refrigerators represent a leap forward in intelligent technology, energy efficiency, and user-centric design. Debuting at CES 2025, this groundbreaking appliance sets a new standard for modern home living, paving the way for innovative AI-driven home solutions.
